Do you want to look young forever? Most of us do, and Botox is a way to help iron out wrinkles on the skin. A new trend, however, is for younger people to start getting treatments to prevent the lines from forming in the first place.

But does Botox prevent wrinkles?

According to a study conducted in Canada, it might have more than just a fleeting effect on the skin.
According to the study, the skin’s elasticity is also improved while the treatment is active. It seems that there might be a lot more to Botox as an anti-aging treatment than we initially thought.

There is the mechanical aspect of paralyzing the muscle so that it can’t spasm and cause wrinkles but this study has opened a whole new inquiry into the action of Botox.
Researchers found that elasticity improved by around a third while the Botox was active. This means that the skin recovers faster and is less prone to wrinkling. The effect was best at around two months after the procedure.

It’s also good news for those that left the treatments for a little too long. Researchers found that in those cases where the lines were too deep for the Botox to completely erase, they did appear less obvious.

Is It Valuable in Preventing Wrinkles?
This is the result of one study, so clearly more research into this area is necessary, but whether or not the increase in elasticity does form a role in wrinkle prevention, the mechanical benefits of Botox cannot be disputed.

It’s simple – if your muscles don’t spasm, the skin is not furrowed, and so creases will not form as readily. From just that point of view, this is an effective way to prevent fine lines and wrinkles.

It Must Be Maintained
It should, however, be looked at as part of your skincare regimen rather than just a once-off treatment. The effects last about three or four months so bank on about three or four treatments a year.

Choose the Right Person to Administer It
Choosing the right person to administer the treatment is essential to reduce the risk of potential complications. Someone skilled in this area will know exactly where the best injection sites are for maximum effect. They will also know how to administer optimal doses.

Is That All I Need?
These treatments will help to improve the smoothness of the skin and possibly its elasticity as well. But that does not mean that you can neglect the skin at other times. To really help maximize the effectiveness of these preventative procedures, you do need to pay attention to the health of your skin.

This means leading a healthier lifestyle and giving your body the nutrients that it needs to stay strong and healthy. If you are a smoker, you need to quit, and you need to take care of your skin.

That means boring stuff like using sunscreen when you go outdoors and following a simple daily program of cleansing and moisturizing your skin.
The benefit of all this effort is that you can stay looking younger for a lot longer. And, let’s be honest here, that is worth the time and effort.
